In my book, Unstuck at Last: Using Your Strengths to Get What You Want, I discuss the concept of amelioration. The idea behind amelioration is continuous, ongoing, and repetitive-to-the-point-of-monotony improvement. Huge and historic improvements are great. But let’s face it, they are hard to achieve.
I gain so much from coaching individuals who have Developer strengths because they naturally see the small progress in others. These people catch the minute and, to some, indiscernible progress the occurs when children play on a sports team, colleagues work diligently on a team project, and spouses dive into a new hobby. The Developer is the proto-type cheerleader. The Developer props us up when we are unsure if our small successes are more than just a fluke. The Developer knows that it is precisely these small daily improvements that will lead to our greatness.
Thank you to all the great Developers out there! You make the world a better place.
